Seminar 2: Sneak Peeks

An inside look at the creative process and an opportunity to contribute opinions on a piece BEFORE it is completed. Three courageous filmmakers will expose their current works in progress — or a section thereof — for supportive feedback and rigorous comments from peers, other filmmakers, and members of the audience. Moderated by Greg Pak from The Workshop in New York City, a group of filmmakers who meet monthly to critique and improve each other’s work.

Here are the works in progress to be screened:

PARACHUTE KIDS, Asako Ushio and Kelly Vaughn co-producers Follows six Asian Americans, and weaves their personal narratives into a collective story describing the "parachute kid" experience (minors who mmigrated and live here in the U.S. without their parents.

GOOD MORNING MRS. KELLEY, Michael Magnaye producer/director About the personal experiences of more than 700 teachers dispatched to the Philippines in 1901 to teach English to the "natives" and the experiences of their students.

LOOKING FOR LUCY, Celine Parrenas Shimizu, director, co-producer A documentary about the production and consumption of the sexualized Asian Woman in popular film.
