BAD GIRL TRILOGY

US Premiere
Taiwan, 1998, 114 mins, 35mm, color, Mandarin w/e.s.

Set in the urban imbroglio of modern-day Taipei, BAD GIRL TRILOGY revolves around three separate stories of young women immersed in mischief and mayhem. Despite the surface layer of whimsy that each woman exhibits, BAD GIRL digs deep into the complexities of their quotidian life, offering snapshots of their fears and aspirations within the alienating space of the big city.

In QUEEN OF THE BENCH (Wen), an aspiring actress and seasoned shoplifter, Li Li (Fan) finds that conniving her way into a dream role comes with an unexpected price. With a Peeping Tom at home and callous film crew at work, Li Li is now the center of attention, but not in the way she wanted.

MY OWN PERSONAL GUN (Lin) looks at the day in the life of Ah-Tsai (Chang), a punked-out junkie who attracts the attention of a protective but charming cop (Tsai). Stealing his gun, Ah-Tsai revels in her new-found power only to confront the hollowness of her own life in the process.

A lost little dog is at the center of A DOG FROM HONG KONG (Chan). Belonging to a recent transplant from HK, Ah-Liang (Jia), the dog is nabbed by two women (Chung, Huang) who play an elaborate practical joke that goes awry.
