KEYNOTE PANEL:
THE STATE OF THE
ART(ISTS)

Moderated by Stephen Gong (NAATA Board of Directors, Associate Director Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive).
Invited guests include:
Roddy Bogawa (SOME DIVINE WIND, JUNK), Anita Chang (IMAGINING PLACE), Spencer Nakasako (A.K.A. DON BONUS, KELLY LOVES TONY), Emiko Omori
(A HOT SUMMER WIND, RABBIT IN THE MOON), Greg Pak (FIGHTING GRANDPA, PO MO KNOCK KNOCK, ASIAN PRIDE PORN)

In what promises to be a lively and provocative conversation our panelists will reflect on some important topics regarding the past and future of Asian American media-making including: How has the growth of Asian American film/video impacted the development of Asian America's self-identity, visibility and perception in mainstream America? As filmmakers are turning to personal histories, experimental forms, narratives and commercial genres, are Asian American artists still creating works for Asian American and/or immigrant communities? The history of Asian American cinema includes a determination to take the work to the audience. As film and television become increasingly inseparable from the social fabric, how should we react when Asian faces and stories are even harder to find? Or are they?
