When Eun-Young (Lee Mi-Youn) returns to teach at Jookran High School for Girls, her alma mater, she finds that anxiety and unrelenting fear now haunt its classrooms and hallways. After the body of an unpopular instructor is found hanging from a building and another instructor (a despicable tyrant named "Mad Dog," portrayed by Park Yong-Su) is fatally attacked, it seems as if the spirit of CARRIE has arrived with a vengeance in WHISPERING CORRIDORSonly this time to vindicate the cruel and humiliating treatment suffered by students under the stern hand of the Korean educational system. Eun-Young cannot help but wonder if the bloody writing on the blackboard will soon spell her end as well. Triggered by the suicide of a student, Eun-Youngs thoughts turn to a similar death that occurred at the school nine years before, and she finds herself visited by the ghost of the earlier victim, who has likewise returned to help uncover the schools dark secrets. Doppelgangers and crossed identities converge with maddeningand sometimes frustratingforce in this bleak suspense thriller (hint: keeping track of the one with the ponytail will not help). The agile camerawork and moody soundtrack, however, make this a feature that will linger in your mind long after any disturbing memories of your own high school experience. Kelly G. Lee Presented with Korean Community Center of the East Bay and Korean Center Inc. of San Francisco
